Brodie & Middleton Compendium of Artists’ Colors, late 19th century, in original hinged mahogany case bearing the firm’s printed label and fitted with an array of pigments in cork-stoppered glass vials and a white-glazed ceramic color chart. The case is secured at the front with two catches, one is missing and there is slight warping to the lid. The interior of the lid is lined with the original velvet. The box dates to c.1880 and measures 11 3/4" x 8 1/4" x 2".
