Description
A very handsome antique English writing or stationery box dating to the early Victorian period, around 1840. The tambour front is operated by opening the drawer revealing a single storage area, today suitable for correspondence cards and envelopes and similar items.The Mahogany has some decorative Boxwood and Ebony inlaid decoration, the drawer-front and lidded compartment have turned Ivory knobs, coordinating with the Ivory escutcheon housing the working tasselled key. The front also houses two brass topped inkwells. Either side retains their original cast brass carrying handles.
A charming and highly decorative desk accessory in excellent condition. The footprint measures 10" x 9 1/4" and stands 8" tall at rear.
