Description

A beautiful highly decorative lap desk or writing slope, made from exotic Rosewood and dating to around 1820, Regency in period.
The top is intricately inlaid with cut brass, always a wonderful combination and highly sought-after. The centre has a shaped inlaid cartouche with a decorative engraved initials, I think F B B. One small piece of brass inlay replaced - see photograph, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy.
The box comes with a working key which opens the top panel to reveal two (later) brass topped inkwells. There are two lidded compartments for pens and other desk-top essentials, each with turned Ivory knobs. Also there are two smaller sloped compartments for pen nibs and the like.
The leather is completely original with gold embossing and surrounding Tulipwood cross banding. The top section opens to store you stationery or letters.
A fabulous and lavish display piece in excellent condition. Measures 14" x 10" x 3 1/2" tall at rear.
