A really wonderful colour of leather, between a navy blue and a deep jewel toned purple with original gilded fittings.
The interior is a real joy, top quality and signed by the prominent retailer Bramah & Co. (Makers To The King - Edward VII). 100, New Bond Street (in London's exclusive Mayfair); this box would have been an expensive purchase in it's day.
The box is fitted with a top quality Needs lock with working key (this box locks shut when closed, so the key should never be stored in box, the best place for is is to sit in the brass escutcheon).
The lid is fitted with leather straps to hold cards, notes etc., amazing condition, this box has obviously not been used extensively. The top tray has a leather covered desk blotter, filled with blotting paper. The original leather clad inkwell is present and beneath the rectangular tray is the original " Light " vesta. This entire top tray comes out to reveal a large space beneath for papers and stationery.
Quite wonderful dating to the Edwardian era, around 1905. 10 3/4" x 7" x 5".
