Description

A stunning little writing box in exotic (and highly prized) Rosewood dating to the William IV era, around 1830.
The box has two flush brass campaign style handles to the sides. The top and front is decorated with the most stunning and intricate finely cut Ivory inlay, most unusual to find in Ivory, usually Mother of Pearl of perhaps brass. The creamy coloured inlay against the rich wood creates a magical combination.
The box comes complete with a working tasseled key the brass lock is signed, E Turner. The original leather is intact with a fine quality gold embossed decoration. There are storage compartments under both flaps and an removable pen tray, brass topped inkwell and a sloped compartment for nibs etc., the other end.
A wonderful box in excellent condition, measuring 12" x 8 3/4" x 4 1/2" tall while closed. Dip pen and stationery for display purposes only.
