charming english regency tortoiseshell sewing box c1820

Description

A most unusual and really charming little sewing box, covered in a wonderful piece of antique Tortoise Shell, with a glossy patina showcasing the colours ranging from golden champagne to rich chocolate brown.
The box sits of four ball feet and the domed lid is inlaid with silver stringing with a central silver mount which would have been used for engraving a monogram or similar. Each corner is also decorated with polished cut steel pins.
The push button to the front allows the lid to be lifted and the lid interior reveals the original mirror. The interior is fitted and lined in silk, for tiny sewing accessories, the pieces you see are included.
Dating to 1820 the box remains in superb condition, one small old repair to a corner above one of the feet ... and minor other wear, all insignificant.
3 5/8" x 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" tall.
