Description

A really wonderful example of a late Victorian / Edwardian stationery cabinet, made from Burl Walnut (really, my very favourite timber) with it's exquisite grain and cognac colouring.
The cabinet opens to reveal a fully fitted interior, with the door interior on the left for notes and business cards and the framed slate on the opposite door to write notes etc. The box comes with a working replacement key, having a Bramah (top notch) action, requiring a push and turn with the key.
There are two original cut crystal & brass topped inkwells with embossed crowns to the top. They sit either side of the removable pen tray with space underneath for keeping pens, nibs and the like. There are various sections to store stationery.
The top lifts to reveal the shallow, narrow tray which holds the rolling perpetual calendar with glazed apertures and knobs to forward and rewind the day, date and month within; underneath is a large section the depth of the cabinet to store large papers or stationery.
There is also a drawer to the bottom of the box which can only be slid open while the box is unlocked and is held secure when the doors are shut.
The front of this one retains it's original wonderful presentation plaque in silver plate and engraved with the date 1903.
A beautiful and useful desk-top gem for the lady or gentleman. Excellent condition and an impressive large size measuring 15 1/2" x 11" x 13" tall at the rear. Please note: the stationery and dip pen are not included in the sale.
