large antique english partners desk inkwell by betjemann's c1880

Description

A very handsome Victorian inkwell, made by a heavy piece of crystal shaped with a large cut channel to each side and the remainder cut in the ever-popular hobnail cut; the underside has a deep star-cut decoration.
This inkwell would have sat in the centre of a Partners Desk and with the patented Betejamann's double action lid could be accessed from either side of the desk. The lid is polished brass and retains the patent number dating it to 1886, the other side signed by Betejamann's.
Quite wonderful and remaining in superb undamaged condition. The base measures 2 7/8" square and stands 3 1/4" tall to top of top.
