unusual antique english brass book carrier holder reg for 1889

Description

A most unusual book carrier or adjustable book slide, made from solid cast brass, top quality and extremely handsome having been professionally re-polished to gleam.
What makes it really unusual is it's form, with the moving third bookend, which slides along the holder depending on the amount of books you wished to store.
Each of the end panels is a riot of Victorian design all revolving around the central mythical face in the centre.
It stands on four original ball feet and each end has a decorative handle.
The underside is engraved with the English design registration number which dates the piece to 1889.
Excellent condition measuring 16 1/2" from handle to handle with an opening for books measuring 13 1/2"; the depth measures 5 3/4" and the end panels measure 7" tall.
