Description
A truly magnificent Preserve Jar made from silver plate and the most exquisite cut & etched crystal.
The lid is engraved with Oak Leaves and Acorns and Swallows, quite exquisite. To compliment this the two side panels of the crystal liner are beautifully etched with a figural scene, one with a bird in a tree (it looks to be a Kingfisher eating a fish) and the other side is a different bird about to take flights, both beautifully executed; hard to capture so take a close look at the photographs.
The glass liner is also beautifully cut. What makes this piece really stand out is the English design registration diamond etched into the glass, this is rare and only found on top quality examples. The diamond shaped lozenge gives us a fairly accurate date that this piece would have been made, with the registration reading January 24th 1883.
Pure quality and in excellent undamaged condition. The rim of the glass liner measures 5" x 3"; standing 4" tall from foot to knob finial or 7" tall to top of handle while upright.
