Description

A magnificent example of a Victorian silver plated spirit kettle of oval form, the kettle with all round fluting and stunning engraved decoration.
The kettle stand on the most stunning stand with an intricate pierced or reticulated skirt with a large Lion's head at the top of each elegant fluted leg. The kettle is secured with the use of two "keys" one releases the back of the kettle so that it could pivot on the front hinge to pour while still on the stand. The key to the front can also be released removing the kettle completely. There is a burner below which would have been filled with fuel to light the wick, keeping the water hot and ready to top-up the teapot.
The underside of the kettle has a full set of marks for the top quality silversmith, Roberts and Belk of Sheffield. There is also a very highly desirable English design registration diamond shaped lozenge which allows us to date the registration of this piece to October 19th, 1868.
An impressive and important piece towering 16" tall to top of handle; the footprint measuring 9 1/2" x 8".
