antique english cut glass sterling silver match strike 1880

Description

A rather special example of a Victorian spherical match strike beautifully cut all-over and inset with a lovely sterling silver top.
The sterling is engine-turned acting as the strike for a non-safety match or vesta, matches will not accompany the strike. There is a lovely crisp hallmark for Birmingham 1880, making this a lovely early example. The makers initials are also present for the quality silversmith, John Grinsell & Sons.
Superb condition, a real gem in excellent condition. Approx. 2 1/2" in diameter x 2 1/2" tall.
