A fabulous and most unusual tea caddy dating to the Regency era, around 1820. A rare combination of woods has been used, nutty Cognac coloured Walnut and rich graphic Tulipwood. The top has exquisite and intricate Marquetry inlay featuring a floral bouquet, using various timbers to create it. The box is fabulous shape and stands on four brass ball feet. Once the lid is opened, the interior reveals a double compartment configuration with two Tulipwood lids. The box has a working (very unusual) lock and key, locking from the bottom into the top, very, very unusual. Excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" x 7" x 5".
