antique english mother of pearl sterling silver letter opener 1893

Description

A handsome desk-top accessory, this letter or paper knife is made from a wonderful piece of Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell, with a glossy patina showcasing the shell's iridescent qualities.
The blade and handle are joined together with sterling silver ferrule, hallmarked for Birmingham 1893, the makers mark is hard to see but I am sure it is for Adie and Lovekin Ltd.
Excellent condition, measuring 8" in length.
