Description

A fabulous Victorian Artist / Paint / Watercolour box dating to around 1850 by the famous Reeves & Sons of 113 Cheapside, London.
The box is made from Mahogany with a flush inlaid brass handle to the lower drawer, an inlaid cartouche to the lid and a complimentary escutcheon to the front which houses the working key.
The box opens to reveal a good clean label to the interior of the lid and another good paper one to the front section of the box.
The paint blocks are in lovely condition and nice to see so many of the original. The two glass water dishes, ceramic palette are intact. Once the paint block tray is removed there is a larger original ceramic palette underneath, both in lovely condition, Under the smaller of the two palettes is the fitted charcoal box.
The pin to the front is removed to enable the bottom drawer to be opened, full of brushes etc. There is a Harrods envelope with pen nibs in and the name Patrick Cargill, a well known British actor. The box is believed to have belonged to him, he had obviously ordered some nibs from Harrods and stored them in the box.
A most impressive size and in superb condition, measuring 13 1/4" x 10" x 5" tall.
