rare antique english automated double inkwell inkstand c1890

Description

A really unusual desk-top gem, this is an automated double inkwell or inkstand. The base is made from solid English Oak and the fittings are made from top quality brass and copper attached with a series of small screws, again a sign of quality. Underneath the button are signs that a small monogram may have been pinned to the wood.
The button in between the inkwells is what lifts the lids to the two inkwells, when finished, this then snaps shut. The two crystal inkwells have beautifully hobnail cut undersides.
Dating to the late Victorian era, around 1890 it remains in excellent working order. The base measures 11" x 6 5/8"; each inkwell measuring 2 3/8" square.
