fine quality angloindian sandalwood lined and ivory inlaid box c1840

Description

An extremely smart box, the perfect piece to sit in both a contemporary or traditional interior.
I have discussed the timber used with a specialist colleague of mine and neither of us are quite sure of the timber used on the exterior, a very fine quality cognac colour.
The box is beautifully beanded around the edges with Ivory and a double line inlaid to the top and front panels. The shaped escutcheon, also in cut Ivory.
The front falls down once the lid is opened and reveals the Sandalwood lined interior.
Extremely fine quality and in superb condition, dating to around 1840.
