Description
A magnificent and rare example, this Victorian English Tantalus is made from solid Oak and mounted with silver plated fittings, a winning and highly sought-after combination.
The key is turned and while it is turned the bottom tray can be moved around to enable the decanters to be removed. To lock, the decanters are put back into the three holders and the tray moved back to where the lock is aligned with the silver pin marker on the circular base.
The carrying handle on the top is lucky enough to have an English design registration diamond shaped lozenge (reserved for particularly special objects) which when deciphered shows us the registered date of manufacture was 25 January 1883.
The three decanters are all in excellent condition with the ever-popular hobnail cut decoration.
Excellent condition, this exciting find remains in excellent condition. The base has a diameter measuring 12" and stands 15 1/2" tall.
