Description

An absolute winner, this antique desk or dinner bell dates to around 1890 or 1900 and English in origin.
The bell or gong is created in the form of a large mushroom or toadstool with two smaller ones underneath. The gong mallet that hangs from the twig holder is used to strike the large mushroom producing a shiny authoritative ring. The mushroom is marked EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver together with the makers mark F W over S.
The heavy base is cast with woodland style plants and rocks; on one of the edges the British design registration number is struck, 62039 dating this piece to 1886. One or the "rocks" to the front is smooth and acts as cartouche, which could be engraved if desired.
The tree at the side is well cast with foliate detail and charming wise Owl perched on the top.
One dint to one of the small mushrooms and very minor other wear ... really super all-round condition. This stunning and most unusual charmer is ready to please.
The base measures 6 1/2" x 4" and the tree and Owl stands 8" tall.
