Description
A stunning desk-top inkwell made from a solid piece of Onyx stone standing on four brass ball feet. In turn, the Onyx is decorated with stripes of beautiful Malachite, a striking combination.The hinge and trim to the inkwell and lid are made from English sterling silver signed by John Griffith and Sons, unusually for English silver it is marked "Sterling". This silversmith were one of the only silversmiths who marked some of their items with 'Sterling Silver' instead of having them hallmarked.
The inside of the inkwell reveals a removable glass ink chamber. Excellent condition dating to c.1930 measuring 4 3/8" x 3 1/2" x 3 1/4" tall.
