Description
A wonderful find, this is a rare example of a late solid English Oak biscuit box in the form of a hand bell, beautifully executed.
The fittings are made from EPNS (electro-plated nickel silver) and does not have a makers mark, I would suspect it was made by John Grinsell or Daniel and Arter who were the two most famous makers of this combination of wood and plate.
The hinged lid is secured by a pin on a chain. Once the lid is opened, the original creamware ceramic lining is revealed, fully intact and miraculously without damage.
A real beauty and in excellent condition measuring 7 1/4" in diameter x 9 3/4".
