Made from sterling silver the lid is inset with a large piece of period Tortoise Shell with a glossy patina showcasing the beautiful markings and colours ranging from golden Champagne to deep chocolate brown.
The hinged lid opens to reveal the original lined interior, in very good condition.
The underside is where the silver is fully hallmarked for London 1926 together with the makers mark for Asprey & Co. ; it is also stamped "Asprey London".
The 20s and 30s were a golden age for Asprey. It embraced the new style, now known as ‘Art Deco’ but then called ‘moderne’ or ‘Jazz modern’, introduced by the Paris Exposition de Arts Décoratifs in 1925. Its iconic designs reflect the new energy and originality, Asprey’s catalogues of this era are beautiful anthologies of luxury goods.
