Description
An exquisite and very fine silver plated 12" salver or tray.Look closely as it is hard to see in the photographs; both the central panel and border is beautifully hand pierced or reticulated and hand-engraved, superb quality, the work in this today would be prohibitively expensive.
The central shield retains three intertwined original initials belonging to the original owner. The tray stands on three very elegant legs; the underside is fully marked with the makers mark for the top-notch silversmith, Elkington & Co. Being Elkington it has a date letter allowing us to date it accurately to the year 1858, early Victorian.
Another (retailer's) mark is present for Roe and Jacob, Silversmiths, Liverpool.
A truly fine example in superb condition measuring 12" in diameter.
