Description

A rare and very fine pair of late Victorian perfume / scent bottles by the top-notch luxury retailer, Asprey of Bond St., London.
The glass is very, very unusual created from threaded glass which in turn has been beautifully hand engraved clear with a lavish floral and foliate design.
The screw tops are made from English sterling silver retaining the original cork within to keep the original glass stoppers secure and in place.
The silver is fully hallmarked for London 1892 together with the maker's initials for Charles Asprey and George Asprey. Below this is engraved "Asprey 166 Bond St W". I will add a little more about this esteemed retailer below.
Excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age. Each measuring 4 1/2" in diameter x 5 3/4" tall.
Asprey
Asprey, founded in 1781 by William Asprey, was originally based in Mitcham, Surrey until the company moved into its current New Bond Street premises.
From its central London location, Asprey advertised ‘articles of exclusive design and high quality', whether for personal adornment or personal accompaniment and to endow with richness and beauty the table and homes of people of refinement and discernment.
An early speciality was dressing cases, for which Queen Victoria awarded Asprey a Royal Warrant for in 1862. In the same year Asprey was also awarded a gold medal for its dressing cases at the International Exhibition.
