Description

A most unusual small visiting card case featuring a concealed integral photograph / Picture frame.
The solid sterling silver case is shaped to fit more comfortably in a pocket. Visiting cards in the Victorian era were smaller than modern business cards, but one could easily have a special card made if wished.
The lid lifts and at first glance it looks to be a simple card case but there is a concealed hinged panel which opens to reveal a gilded interior with an oval photograph frame. The bezel removes to place a picture within; there is a simple man-made clear film placed there to protect any picture. The aperture of the frame measures 1 7/8" x 1 3/8".
The silver is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1899. The makers mark is also present for well regarded silversmith, S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Excellent condition measuring 3 1/8" x 2 1/4" x 1/2".
