Description
A stunning pair of English binoculars or field glasses dating to around 1916. Made from polished brass, they have been meticulously re-polished to gleam, which looks stunning paired with the deep brown coloured leather.
They focus wonderfully and and the eye pieces having eye shields that swivel across to the outside when in use and swivel back to the centre for packing away in the case. Each eye piece engraved "Ross London".
In 1897 the Kelly's Directory wording read: "ROSS and Co. Gold Medals London 1851 and 1862, Paris 1867, Philadelphia 1876, Paris 1878 and Inventions Exhibition 1885 Grand prix and Gold Medal 1889, Jamaica 1891 3 awards Chicago 1893. For first class microscopes, telescopes and photographic lenses and apparatus, race glasses etc. Catalogues on application".
Excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age; measuring 5" wide x 2 1/2" deep x 5 1/2" tall extending to 7". The case measures 6 1/4" tall x 5 5/8" wide x 3 1/4" deep. The optics are in perfect working order.
