A top quality early nineteenth century Padauk Jewellery box or casket, dating to around 1820. The shape is exquisite made from heavy timber, a wonderful tactile piece. The Padauk timber is all beautifully cross-banded in decorative Partridgewood and trimmed in Boxwood. The three large panels, front, top and back are inlaid with Ivory. Each side is mounted with a brass English Lion's head handle, very typical of the period, the box standing on four brass ball feet. The interior is a joy, simply because it is totally original, lined in a pale pink paper.
