A top quality early nineteenth century Padauk Jewellery box or casket, dating to around 1820. The shape is exquisite made from heavy timber, a wonderful tactile piece.
The Padauk timber is all beautifully cross-banded in decorative Partridgewood and trimmed in Boxwood. The three large panels, front, top and back are inlaid with Ivory.
Each side is mounted with a brass English Lion's head handle, very typical of the period, the box standing on four brass ball feet.
The interior is a joy, simply because it is totally original, lined in a pale pink paper. A real stunner in excellent condition, measuring 8" x 4" x 4 3/4" tall.
