Description

A truly rare and magnificent equestrian themed egg cruet, lucky enough to have an English design registration diamond shaped lozenge on the underside allowing us to accurately date the registration of this design to 23rd May 1865. Also present on the underside is the makers mark for the London silversmiths, RICHARD HODD & WILLIAM LINLEY; this mark dates the piece to pre-1872; so now we have an accurate window for the date of this piece.
I would imagine that this was a commissioned piece created for an important family or individual as is is so unique, the likes I have never seen before and will never again.
The shaped base is hefty and beautifully made with six riding boots made into egg cups and miraculously the six stunning original spoons are intact in with riding crop handles. The central support is decorated with a pair of riding crops topped with an inverted Jockey cap topped with a stirrup which is an open salt again with the original salt spoon.
A rare, rare piece in excellent condition with a base diameter measuring 10 1/2" x 7" tall.
