Description

An exquisite French Louis XVI tea caddy with a highly decorative double serpentine front and a cast brass handle and escutcheon (with working key).
Made from a stunning piece of burl Walnut with a deep and extremely rich nutty colour which can only come from such age.
The caddy opens to reveal three lidded compartments which would have contained three different types of tea.
There is a brass pin which when removed allows access to the drawer below which would have originally been for teaspoons.
The box stands on four brass feet and is in excellent condition. Dating to the late eighteenth century, around 1790, the box measures 9" x 5" deep x 5 1/2" tall excluding folding handle.
