Description
Both the box and contents of this silver plate and Mother of Pearl fruit or desert set deserve equal credit.This must be the most exquisite set we have had the pleasure of offering, the quality is second to none. Firstly the box is is made from hand carved Walnut.
The handles of both knives and forks are the most decorative hand carved and polished we have seen, a truly unusual design; quite exquisite.
All pieces are signed by the silversmith, Joseph Rodgers. The box is also lucky enough to have the retailer's inset brass plaque; "Thomas Lancaster Whipp / 45 Yorkshire St / Rochdale"
Dating to c.1880, the set remains in excellent condition. The box measures 11 3/4" x 10 1/2" x 2 1/2" with each knife measuring 8 1/2" in length and each fork, 7 1/4". Complete with key.
