Description
A charming little table Vesta in the form of an owl, made from solid cast brass and this one retaining it's original gilded finish; this is usually worn away.The Owl's head is hinged to get to the matches which would have been stored within, retrieved, then struck on the textured surface of the Owl's plumage.
There is a small hold on the branch which the Owl sits on, the match would have been placed in here to supply enough light to get up the stairs where a candle could then be lit, this is the reason these are known as Go-To-Bed's.
This one has a hole which can be seen to the base, not damage but there from the casting.
Excellent condition retaining it's original glass eyes, measuring 3" in height.
