Description

A stunning Victorian card case made by the highly collectable silversmith, George Unite. The silver is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1876 together with the maker's initials, G U and the highly sought-after Queen Victoria's head duty mark.
The case is beautifully decorated to the front and back with vacant shield-shape cartouche. One tiny dimple on one side, shown and mentioned purely for accuracy but insignificant.
The hinge and catch both are in good working order and once opened reveals a leather lined interior with compartments for postage stamps and retains some of the original owners visiting cards which will accompany the case.
The leather is gold embossed for the top-notch retailer "Finnigans". The House of Finnigans was a British luxury luggage and trunk maker established in 1830, originally in Manchester and later in New Bond Street in London. The House of Finnigans manufactured and produced a wide range of luxury products, including trunks, bags, fashion, jewelry, timepieces, and silverware.
A beautiful case in excellent condition measuring 4" x 2 1/4" x 1/2" and weighing 3 .83 Troy Ounces or 119 Grams. Lining cotton fabric looks to have been replaced at some point.
