Description

An exquisite nineteenth century sewing box dating to around 1860 made from the highly decorative Burl Ash / Hungarian Ash / Silky Australian Oak (all sorts of names are used to describe this highly decorative wavy timber), cross-banded with Tulipwood to the lid.
The gently domed top is exquisitely inlaid with engraved brass, Ebony, Tulipwood scrolls and Mother of Pearl.
The interior is a real joy fitted as a lady's compendium including a crystal scent bottle (a few chips and nibbles), there was of course originally two .. a hunt to find a matching pair would really complete this box.
The blue velvet is in amazing condition, a rich colour and pile the two lids with a gilded acorn knob.
The large lid is fitted with all sorts of sewing implements.
A superb box in excellent condition complete with working key, measuring 9 3/4" x 7" x 4 1/2" tall.
