Description
A rather unusual antique English letter opener made from sterling silver and Mother of Pearl. The shell on this example is "squared" off rather than the usual rounded sides, nice for a change.

The sterling silver blade bears a full English hallmark for Sheffield 1899 together with the makers initials M & W for the famous silversmith Mappin & Webb.
Excellent condition and as useful as beautiful. 7 3/4" in length.
