A lovely quality large Artist's Watercolour box in brass bound Mahogany dating to c.1830.
The box opens to reveal a wonderful red coloured embossed leather panel to the interior of the lid, incorporating the signature of the manufacturer, J. Newman and the address of 24 Soho Square.
This particular box has replacement paint blocks made up for by having the most exceptional selection of signed ceramic palettes and pots. To the rear are four three-tier towers, with damage commensurate with age. A small palette to the top and a very large signed palette within the drawer.
There is s metal box with a sliding lid containing the original charcoals. There are the original paper coverings beneath various sections in a teal blue and gold "Newman, 24 Soho Square, London"
A good early example in excellent used condition dating to c.1830, nearly 200 years old. Complete with a working key. 11" x 8 3/4" x 4" tall.
