A handsome Victorian novelty solid / Sterling silver tea caddy created in the form of a Georgian knife box. The underside is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1898, Victorian in era, together with the makers mark for the top notch silversmith, Walker & Hall. Just back from our silversmith's workshop, it has been professionally cleaned and polished. Once opened a lavishly gilded interior is revealed. The box measures 2 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" deep x 3 1/4" at the rear (excluding the finial). Established in Sheffield, England, in 1845 by George Walker, Walker & Hall Silversmiths grew from a small electroplating workshop into one of Britain's most prolific and renowned manufacturers of sterling silver, cutlery, and electroplated goods, before merging into British Silverware Limited in 1963.
