Description

A stunning and very elegant glass and silver plated biscuit box or barrel made by the top notch English silversmith, Mappin & Webb, signed on the underside of the base.
The base stands on three original cast feet. The glass box is beautifully hand-etched with floral and foliate garlands tied with ribbon and bows.
The hinged lid is engraved with the same garland design with a central cast finial to the centre.
The box dates to the late Victorian / Edwardian era, around 1900 and remains in superb condition (over time the fasteners on the underside have been replaced, fully functioning but mentioned for accuracy). The base measures approximately 7" in diameter (max) x stands 7 1/4" tall to top of finial.
Mappin & Webb is one of the UK’s most prestigious luxury brands, with a rich history spanning over 250 years in the production of fine jewellery, watches, and premium silverware,
They were granted their first official Royal Warrant as Silversmiths to Queen Victoria in 1897. The firm has held a Royal Warrant for every subsequent British monarch, including serving as Jewellers, Goldsmiths, and Silversmiths to His Majesty King Charles III.
