Description
A stunning and scarcely found Art Deco silver plated handled tray, perfect of the finest bar with it's circular tray with linear details and finished with two stylish Art Deco handles.Just back from our silversmith's, it has been professionally cleaned, dents removed, re-plated and polished, restoring it to it's former glory, minor wear commensurate with age and use.
The underside is fully marked for the famous English silversmith, Mappin and Webb together with "Sheffield & London" and "Mappin Plate"
Designed by Keith Murray for Mappin & Webb. Keith Murray (1892-1981) was born in New Zealand and moved to the UK with his parents when he was 14.
He trained as an architect and worked as an illustrator before becoming a designer. During the 1930’s he produced designs in glass for Stevens & Williams, ceramic for Wedgwood and for silver manufacturers Mappin and Webb. His designs are now much sort after. Following the second world war, he returned to his career as an architect.
